Südostschweiz reports on the SAKK 96/12 REDUSE study

An international study led by Prof. Dr. med. Roger von Moos shows that administering denosumab less frequently, while maintaining the same level of efficacy, can reduce the burden on patients.

In a recent interview with Prof. Dr. med. Roger von Moos, MD, a medical oncologist at the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital and a long-time clinical researcher, on the results of the SAKK 96/12 REDUSE study, which were recently presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The international study examined the dosing intervals for denosumab in patients with bone metastases resulting from breast or prostate cancer. The results show that treatment every twelve weeks can achieve comparable efficacy to the previous regimen of every four weeks. At the same time, benefits were observed in terms of the burden on patients and the frequency of certain side effects.

The REDUSE study was conducted within the Swiss Cancer Institute network in collaboration with more than 50 cancer centers. As highlighted in the interview, the idea for the study originated in Chur, and the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital made a significant contribution to recruiting study participants.

The report underscores the importance of independent academic cancer research. Such studies help to further optimize existing treatments and continuously improve patient care.
