SRF report from 24.04.2026: Aspirin as a drug against cancer?

Can a well-known drug such as aspirin also play a role in cancer treatment?

A recent SRF Tagesschau report examines this question - with assessments by oncologist Prof. Dr. med. Ulrich Güller, MD, MHS, FEBS from Spital STS AG.

The focus is on a study by the Swiss Cancer Institute. It is an example of what independent clinical cancer research can make possible: research into new areas of application for already established, cost-effective drugs.

The so-called "drug repurposing" strategy - i.e. the use of existing active substances for new therapeutic purposes - opens up promising prospects in oncology: efficient, accessible and with direct benefits for patients.
