Treatment of patients with glioblastoma with lomustine and radiotherapy or lomustine without radiotherapy when the disease progresses for the first time - a randomized phase III trial (LEGATO)
Summary of the study
There are different types of brain tumors, including glioblastoma. If you are diagnosed with a glioblastoma, you will normally undergo surgery, radiotherapy of the brain and/or treatment with medication. It is very common for a glioblastoma to relapse after initial treatment. This means that the tumor begins to grow again. Worldwide, people with a relapse of glioblastoma are most frequently treated with the substance lomustine, a chemotherapeutic agent. Sometimes those affected are also treated a second time with radiotherapy. However, it is not yet known whether the combination of lomustine and radiotherapy works better than treatment with lomustine alone. In this study, we are therefore investigating whether the combination of lomustine and radiotherapy is generally safe and works better in cases of glioblastoma relapse than lomustine alone.
