Der Bund: Why laypeople are so important for research

Der Bund recently reported on why patients and relatives play a central role in medical research. Among others, Lea Kusano, member of the Executive Board of the Swiss Cancer Institute, and Prof. Eva Segelov, Director of the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Bern, have their say in the article.

Both make it clear: good cancer research is not created at a desk alone. It needs the perspectives of those people who are directly affected .

For over ten years , the Patient Council of the Swiss Cancer Institute has been contributing these perspectives . It examines studies for comprehensibility, suitability for everyday use and relevance and helps to design research in such a way that it is really feasible for patients . Today, his assessment is even incorporated into our funding decisions .

Patient involvement not only improves the quality of research , but also strengthens trust and transparency.

In order for this important work to be continued and expanded , we are dependent on support . Every donation contributes to making patient-oriented cancer research possible - for studies that are close to real life .
